Day Touring
This program takes place in the heart of our legendary backcountry terrain.
Our guides will show you some of the most spectacular views and incredible terrain that Mount Mackenzie has to offer. Whether you are an avid backcountry explorer or a new backcountry recruit, our guides will take you to the appropriate terrain to challenge your abilities. This program can be extended to suit the needs of the guest.
Required Touring Equipment
- Skis or splitboard

- Transceiver
- Shovel, probe and pack
If you require touring gear, we encourage you to organise rentals a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Rental equipment is subject to availability. You can book touring equipment through the rental department via email - rental@revelstokemountainresort.com - or call 250.814.0087 #7211.

AST 1
This introductory Avalanche Skills Training course is for anyone planning on going into the backcountry. Basic avalanche phenomena and safe mountain travel are discussed, practiced and taught by our Pro Patrol who follows the curriculum established by the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA). The AST Level 1 is the prerequisite for the AST Level 2 and for continued training in professional and industry avalanche courses offered by the CAA.

Note: Backcountry Equipment is not included in this rate. Equipment rentals are available in the RMR Rental Shop. A complete Touring Backpack including a beacon, probe and shovel is available at a rate of $54 for 2 days.Note: All program participants will be asked to sign a Release of Liability Waiver prior to the start of the course. Participants under the age of 19 will need to have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver on their behalf.
AST 2
This course consists of 8 hours of indoor training along with 3.5 days of on snow practical training. The goal of the course is to present candidates with intermediate decision making skills in relation to avalanche hazard recognition and trips into the backcountry. Our Pro Patrol will provide training that is within the curriculum established by the Canadian Avalanche Association.

Companion Rescue Course
The Companion Rescue Skills course can be used as the first stepping stone to avalanche training and can also be used as a refresher for those who have previous training in either AST 1 or AST 2 or other avalanche training. This course takes place inbounds at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The vital skills covered in this course are a "must have" for all backcountry recreationists, whether you ski, board, sled, hike or climb.
After taking the one-day Companion Rescue Skills course, we encourage all participants to consider further training by taking the AST 1 course.
Objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Consider and incorporate preventative measures.
- Prioritize actions if caught in an avalanche.
- Understand the function of airbags.
- Understand transceiver functions and practice transceiver skills.
- Apply search and rescue techniques.
- Practice searching without a transceiver.
- Consider multiple burial situations.
- Organize a group rescue.
- Identify post-incident considerations.

Cancellation Policy
Our goal is to provide you with the best experience possible. Sometimes the weather and/or snow conditions do not cooperate and we are unable to run your program on the scheduled date. If we are unable to operate we will offer a full refund or the option to rebook (based on availability).

- Revelstoke Mountain Resort requires a 100% payment at the time of booking.
- This payment becomes non-refundable at the time of purchase.
- Revelstoke Mountain Resort reserves the right to cancel any program due to mechanical failure, weather, or snow conditions.
- Some of our programs require a minimum number of guests in order to run the activity. In the event that the program does not meet the minimum requirement, Revelstoke Mountain Resort will first offer an alternative date(s), followed by a full refund if we are unable to move the booking.
All rates are based on the 2012/13 season and subject to applicable taxes.
