A Love Letter to Heli Skiing
September 13 2013
Hello from Selkirk Tangiers!
I hope you’ve had a wonderful spring and summer and are dreaming about winter as much as we’ve been. It’s been another great summer here in Revelstoke but the chill of fall is creeping into the night air and as usual, it is starting to feel like winter is on its way! We are, as always, deep in preparations for this upcoming winter and reflecting back on the 2012-13 season which was another incredible one. Snowfall, temperatures and sunshine all cooperated to help us provide yet another amazing season heli skiing in the legendary Selkirk powder our exclusive terrain has to offer. With another helicopter added to our fleet, the 5 seater Bell 407, we were able to provide even more flexible options for Private groups of any size.
A big part of the prep for our season means putting some time and work into our terrain. A few of our heli ski guides have been involved for a number of years in our summer/fall glading program, where we do maintenance and development of heli pads and runs in our tenure. This year is no different, with work already underway on projects like making improvements to existing runs. ‘Cuba Libra’ and ‘Rad’ are just a few runs getting new heli landing pads to make them easier to get to if weather is not ideal. We will also be doing work on runs like ‘Satisfaction’ and ‘April’ to open up some new lines we’ve been hoping to take guests into for years but never quite had the best way to get in. Essentially, we’re taking some of your favourites and giving them a slight facelift to move them from being amazing to spectacular!
Moving into this season, we are giving back to our guests with some exciting promotions we hope will interest you. To kick things off, we’ve got unlimited vertical included with select single and multi-day packages from the day we open our doors, December 8th, until mid-January. Combine that with the fact that early season is typically our snowiest time of the year, and you’re probably going to be happy you decided to take us up on this offer.
If you’re more interested in longer days and spring-like conditions (goggle tans anyone?), we’ve increased the included amount of vertical meters for our Classic packages after March 15th. Anyone coming from this date until the end of our season on April 12th will be treated to bonus vertical for their package. And who knows, you might be lucky enough to be here during a week where we get lots of sun plus one of the amazing spring storms we see most years that makes it feel like January all over again – deep! The technical term for this is “Apr-uary”, and it’s pretty spectacular! Long days, sunny skies, powder, more vertical – how can you go wrong?
As I move into my 29th year with this company, I truly still get excited to see guests when they arrive for their 1st, 2nd or 10th trip with us. I hope to see you this winter and if I’m lucky, maybe we can go for a run or two.
