Salomon Stars Head Up New Heli Ski Camps

October 13 2012

Incredible terrain and unbelievable powder attracts the best in the industry making Revelstoke home to many talented snow sport athletes. From Greg the ‘2 Mil’ Hill signing with Salomon Freeski this past summer to Salomon Pro Team Member, Chris Rubens featured on the cover of Powder Magazine’s Buyer’s Guide (Sept 2012), the well-deserved ‘cred’ is building. Recruiting the talent, Selkirk Tangiers joins with Salomon in presenting select heli ski programs for the 2012-13 season and utilizing a variety Pro Guest Coaches for these programs. Plans include Salomon athletes, Chris Rubens and Leah Evans heading up one of the new Steeps Camp (March 2-6, 2013) and a Women’s Retreat (March 9-12, 2013), respectively. Both Rubens and Evans have extensive athletic accomplishments including competing in the Freeride World Tour, Revelstoke’s signature athletic event.

The specialty heli ski programs were introduced based on guest feedback and the new guest coach involvement is sure to ‘amp’ up the interest. With bookings flowing in, a second Women’s Retreat has been confirmed and is to be headed up by Chloë Lanthier, director & owner of the X-Training School and an accomplished world class endurance athlete. Another ‘Pro’ program will be hosted by 1994 Canadian Olympic Gold Medallist - Men’s Moguls, Jean Luc Brassard leading a 6 day trip to Revelstoke (March 30-April 6, 2013) through Voyages Gendron (www.voyagesgendron.com) and including lift skiing and 3 days of heli skiing with Selkirk Tangiers. Jean Luc notes, “With great pleasure, I invite you to close down your skiing season by being part of this amazing and breathtaking experience with Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing!“

Steeps Camp – March 2-6 and March 16-20, 2013

Geared towards the aggressive skier looking for challenging terrain, the Steeps Camp offers fast, steep, and big days. A more than accomplished athlete stealing the cover shot on Powder Magazine and the poster boy for Salomon’s fall ad-campaign, Chris Rubens brings a whole-lot-a-shred to this gnarly camp, March 2-6, 2013. Rubens says, “I'm really excited for the opportunity to ski copious amounts of Selkirk powder while flying helicopters around some of the most incredible mountains in the world, giving tips and pointers but generally just having the best time of our lives. I get to travel all over the world but Revelstoke and Selkirk Tangiers will always be my favourite places to ski.”

Women’s Retreat - January 5-8 and March 9-12, 2013

Specifically created for female skiers and snowboarders, the Women’s Retreat offers unlimited vertical in Selkirk Tangiers’ legendary terrain with some extra pampering such as spa treatments, yoga sessions, cocktails, and even a pink Selkirk Tangiers t-shirt. In addition, for each package sold, $50 will be donated by Selkirk Tangiers to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Featured in SBC Skiers Buyer’s Guide (Sept 2012, feature article: “Happy” on skiing with Selkirk Tangiers and at Revelstoke Mountain Resort), Leah Evans, pro skier, coach, competitive athlete and the genius behind Girls Do Ski will lend her expertise on skiing big mountains in an inclusive, positive environment, March 9-12, 2013. “I love skiing!” says Evans. “This being said, I’m thrilled to share my passion with a group of ladies in my very own backyard. I’m looking forward to passing on local knowledge, sharing experiences, skiing tips, laughs, and some glorious Revelstoke powder.”

Chloë Lanthier will be hosting the Women's Retreat this January at Selkirk Tangiers. An accomplished world class endurance athlete and ambassador for the outdoor company Patagonia, Chloë has been competing for more than two decades in mountain running, endurance mountain biking, and multi-sport races including expeditions around the world. Her growing athletic success is due in part to her holistic approach to training including a balanced, healthy lifestyle. In her free time, she climbs mountains and skis fresh powder. Chloë is the Director/Owner of the X-Training School and her expertise is in sports rehabilitation and human performance. Working in both Europe and North America and living between Revelstoke, BC and Chamonix, France, she teaches courses and works closely with injured, world-class athletes.
