MYTH: I guess I should buff up on some espionage movies and figure out how to jump out of that helicopter!

FACT: It’s not James Bond. Unlike in the movies, you don’t jump out of the helicopter at all. Heli ski landing pads are not random. They are placed throughout our runs to allow easy access points to drop off and pick up groups, taking into account terrain, weather patterns, and layout of the surrounding forest. Some are naturally designed to accommodate our helicopters whereas others might need maintenance during the summer and fall months to make sure they will still be accessible once the snow falls.

MYTH: My husband and I ski together all the time. He’s going heli skiing but I don’t think I’m good enough.

FACT: Anything he can do, you can too! If you are reasonably fit, a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder, and have some powder experience, but most importantly WANT to go then you can do it! Like any sport, the mind preparation is key - a positive attitude and determination are often more powerful than having experience under your belt.

MYTH: I’m afraid I’ll get lost or not know where to go!

FACT: You are not alone - both figuratively and literally. Many people wonder about this with heli skiing. It is important to know that you are always following a guide. In our single day programs, two guides accompany the group for added assurance. Our guides will lead you down the heli ski run, stopping at certain points to re-collect the group and give instructions and tips for the upcoming terrain. The group will be spaced apart, in a single-file order, following closely to either side of the lead guides’ tracks ensuring you still get a taste of the powder.

MYTH: Will I survive my extreme heli ski experience?

FACT: Extreme? No. Fun? Yes! Just because super-star Travis Rice and his talented entourage came to STHS to hit up some of the most extreme terrain and lines during their filming of “Art of Flight” does not mean you will be doing the same. The experience of flying in a helicopter, reaching remote terrain, and skiing or riding in untouched powder is an exquisite experience that often gets misconstrued as extreme. The terrain we typically access is ideal for the intermediate skier or snowboarder, and as long as your fitness, ability, and powder experience is up to snuff, you’ll be living to tell over and over again of how awesome this is for anyone to try!

MYTH: We’ll be hitting up loads of first descents, right?

FACT: Our amazing 200+ named runs have been skied for over 35 years by our guides, staff, and guests. Though we are still discovering and naming new runs in our massive tenure, for the most part we keep to our traditional runs. Our runs are tried, tested, and true.

MYTH: So you’re called Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing, no snowboarders allowed?

FACT: Over 35 years ago when Selkirk Tangiers was established, there weren’t too many snowboarders around and now, it would be a bit of a mouthful to add “Snowboarding” to the name but of course, snowboarders are welcome! Even some of our guides switch out for a snowboard now and again. Skiers will always have the advantage in deep powder on flatter terrain because of their poles but our guides will try their best to give you a heads up when flatter terrain is approaching and remind you to keep up your speed. Keep in mind; fitness, ability, and powder boarding experience are always factors that will attribute to the best heli boarding experience!

MYTH: I can’t seem to find anyone to go heli skiing with me, guess I just won’t be able to go.

FACT: The best part about our heli skiing experience is that you will meet new friends and there is absolutely no expectation to bring anyone with you. Most of our products are designed for the individual or couple in mind, particularly the multi-day programs. As a group, you will eat together, ski together, and après together. You’ll find your new extended ‘heli ski’ family in both guests and staff at STHS, so much that you will never be able to return ‘alone’ again!

The Mid-Mountain Lodge will also be open for breakfast with service scheduled from 6:30am until 10:30am. Bring your appetite and your camera to capture an unforgettable dining experience. Dogs are welcome in the Village Plaza at the base of the resort but must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted in the gondola.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort received a whopping 38ft (11.5m) of snowfall this past season.  The season started off with a bang when almost 8ft (2.5m) of snow fell in December alone.  The spring tradition of heavy snowfall carried on in Revelstoke with close to 50” of snow from Mid-March to the final week of operations in Mid-April. In true ‘Revy-style’, plenty of deep, blower powder days were enjoyed throughout the season with 24hr snowfalls of up to 30cm.

With the winter season behind us, the Resort will now be shifting gears in preparation for our first season of Summer Operations. The Revelation Gondola is scheduled to run from June 28th until October 1st, with service to the Mid-Mountain Lodge. Breakfast will also be on offer for guests looking to enjoy sightseeing and breakfast. More information on this service will be announced in the coming weeks.

In regards to next winter, the Resort will be releasing Season Pass pricing in the coming week. More information on Resort development will also be confirmed in the coming months. Check back in June to find out what will be new for 2013/2014.

Final Day of the Season: Pajama Day/Pancake Breakfast

Join us for a pancake breakfast in the Village at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Breakfast will served on a donation basis with all proceeds going to the Revelstoke Rotary. We will also be celebrating the end of the season with Pajama Day. Come dressed in your favourite PJ's for some pancakes and bacon! Pancakes will be served from 8am until 10am while supplies last.

As we make the transition into Spring in Revelstoke, we want to take a moment to say "Thank You" to all of our guests who came to experience heli skiing or boarding with Selkirk Tangiers this past winter. The season started with incredible powder turns in December and ended on a high note with boot-top turns to finish off the season in April. Whether you were skiing with us for the first or the fiftieth time, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed both the skiing experience and our hospitality.

We are currently in the process of defining our pricing and products for the 2013/2014 season. This information will be available online shortly for your convenience. Exciting new packages include Small Group Heli Skiing in January 2014 with unlimited vertical on 3 or 5 Day A-Star Packages. In March, when most resorts are experiencing what the ski industry loves to tote as "spring conditions", Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers a dynamic skiing and riding experience thanks to an incredible vertical of almost 6,000 feet where light, dry powder can be found up top and soft, creamy conditions down low.

Based on what type of skiing or riding is desired, guests can easily access their ideal conditions thanks to a strategically-placed lift system. For those seeking pow and incredible tree skiing, we recommend they ride The Stoke and Ripper chairs all day long – still giving more vertical than many resorts with over 2,000 vertical feet. But if it’s that soft, carvable and "spring-like" ski experience being sought after, guests can run laps on the Revelation Gondola and it will not disappoint with its long, flowing trails groomed to perfection that absorb the sun with their south-facing slope – spring skiing perfection!

In addition to a 50% discount on lift tickets, BC Residents can also purchase tickets to the Turtle Creek Tube Park at a 50% discount. The Turtle Creek Tube Park will be open throughout the BC Family Day Weekend from 2pm - 8pm. Tickets for the Turtle Creek Tube Park are available for purchase in the RMR Retail Store.

Residents simply need to show proof of residency in the form of government issued ID in order to qualify for this discount. This discount is only valid on Monday, February 11, 2013 and cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions.

Family Day Programming at Kids' ROC

Looking for something fun and healthy for your child on Family Day? We have extended our hours at the Kids' Revelstoke Outdoors Centre! Kids’ ROC and our Snow Pros will look after your child from 8:30am until 4:00pm. Their day will include ski/snowboard lessons, playtime in Kids' ROC, and lunch! Programs are available for children 6 to 12 years of age.

In conjunction with the Turtle Creek Tube Park, the Beginner Area and Rail Line are open Wednesday through Sunday from 2pm – 8pm. Season Pass Holders and regular Day Ticket Holders are entitled to enjoy the Beginner Area and Rail Park during the evening at no charge.

Rates

Guests who do not have a Season Pass or a regular Day Ticket can purchase a Magic Carpet ticket to use this area. Please visit the RMR Retail Store to purchase your lift tickets for the evening.
