In February, 2013, BC will enjoy its first Family Day.

The Provincial Government is currently soliciting input from British Columbians  about whether the second or third Monday in February works best for BC’s families and our economy.

BC Family Day is currently scheduled to take place on the third Monday in February, commencing in 2013.  However, since this day is a holiday in the USA and five Canadian provinces, many BC Ski Resorts are already operating at full capacity on this weekend, including Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Thus, having BC Family Day on this day will diminish the potential for British Columbians to enjoy BC Ski Resorts and other tourism experiences throughout the province.  Moroeover, it will result in a significant lost economic opportunity for the province.  Accordingly, CWSAA and Revelstoke Mountain Resort are advocating for the BC Provincial Government to move BC Family Day to the second Monday in February, in order to achieve the following benefits:

• Economic Benefits: Moving Family Day to the second Monday in February would enhance the economic health and viability of the BC Ski Industry and BC Tourism generally.
• Social Benefits: The incremental revenues received by the BC Tourism Industry would result in additional tax revenues for the government, helping to support social programs.
• Family Benefits: British Columbians would have enhanced access to Ski Resorts, and other BC Tourism experiences, resulting in a more enjoyable Family Day.

The Selkirk and Monashee Mountains lived up to their reputation as one of the "snowiest places in Canada" with record snowfall during the 2011/2012 season. Snowpack measurements approached eight metres in many areas of our tenure thanks to an amazing 17 metres (55 feet) of snow fall. Phenomenal powder skiing was enjoyed all season long with an average of four metres (13 feet) of snowfall per month.

With consistent snowfall, conditions were primed to take full advantage of our 500,000 acres of terrain, including over 200 established runs. Thanks to the abundant snowfall, we were able to revisit many of our classic runs, offering pristine powder from the summits to the valley bottom. We were also able to discover five new runs!

This season's success is reflected in our customer surveys which confirmed that 98% of our guests will ski with us again, while 97% plan to recommend us to others. According to the surveys, we were able to exceed over 99% of our guests' expectations. New products such as the "Advanced Day Heli" package (now called the "Powder Adventure") and "New Year's Heli Ski Special" were well received.

With the ear-to-ear grins fresh in our minds, we want to take the opportunity to say a special "Thank You" to all our guests who came to experience heli skiing or boarding with Selkirk Tangiers this past winter. Whether for the first or the fiftieth time, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed both the skiing experience and our hospitality. We look forward to seeing you in Revelstoke again next winter. Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s 5th Anniversary Season was incredible and the slopes close on a high with memories of many powder days and endless grins to hold onto until winter 2012-13.

Snowfall was of no shortage this season with over 1100cm falling on the Resort and abundant powder days perfectly timed by Mother Nature for our weekend skiers and snowboarders to revel in!  New family amenities were well-received with regular use of the Turtle Creek Beginner Area and Tube Park. The new magic carpet lift at the base area provided families and new skiers with the perfect training ground to develop their skills in a safe environment. Attendance in snow school programs flourished with the addition of Kids' ROC and Mountain Child Care services. 

The introduction of The Sutton Place Hotel brand at Revelstoke Mountain Resort inspired impressionable enhancements in service including a dedicated concierge desk, wine and cheese arrival reception, and après-ski yoga sessions.  It was obvious that guests couldn’t resist the enticing atmosphere of the new outdoor/year-round pool and additional hot tubs, tucked away from the slopes and complete with mountain views and sounds of nature. With the third phase of the hotel opening its doors in December, the Sutton Place Hotel has now expanded its capacity with 209 luxurious suites, ranging from one to three bedrooms.

The 2011-12 winter season at Revelstoke Mountain Resort will be marked down as our most successful season to date with promise of more to come!  The Resort saw a dramatic increase in visiting day guests, season pass holders, and media attention – all indicators that we truly have something special here.  Valuable customer feedback submitted through our Customer Survey will help shape our future seasons while we hold on to the positive comments that let us know we are on the right track.  Some comments that stand out include:  “I had no idea Revelstoke was so amazing. The terrain, first class lift system, food, and people were all top notch”, and “RMR has been a pleasure to visit - the great snow and terrain start the experience, but the friendly people generate an amazing atmosphere that ensures I will keep coming back.”  One guest was so pleased with his stay that he arranged a special private curling party for the RMR staff to enjoy!

As the season closes, it’s the ear-to-ear grins at the end of the ski day and the excited après-ski chatter that tell the true tale of how successful we really were this winter.  A special “Thank You” goes to each and every employee, whose dedication, hard work, and passion have contributed towards our success.  An even bigger “THANK YOU” goes out to all our guests who came to experience our resort, whether for the first or the fiftieth time, and who we hope thoroughly enjoyed both the mountain and our hospitality.  We always welcome Guest Feedback and have our Customer Survey available online 24/7, 365 days a year.

With more snow and cooling temperatures in the forecast, March is continuing to deliver at RMR.

The total snowfall for the 2011-2012 season has just breached 1000cm and our settled base has hit 300cm for the first time this year, guaranteeing amazing coverage throughout spring!

'Spring' seems a poor choice of words however, as after 27cm in 24 hours on March 16th, conditions still feel more like mid-winter. March typically brings storm cycles to RMR and this year is no exception, with 177cm snowfall since March 1st.

We received 82cm of snow this past week with the peak of the storm hitting just in time for Saturday skiers and delivering a whopping 34cm in 24hrs!

Incredible powder conditions were enjoyed all weekend long as the storm finally tailed-off on Sunday, opening the skies to some beautiful sunshine for the past two days.

British Columbia intends to enhance the existing B.C. new housing rebates and will now include recreational properties, therefore including real estate at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The enhanced rebates will be available after April 1, 2012 and before April 1, 2013.

Kids ROC Family Week Activity Schedule

Loads of family fun is planned around the Family Day holiday (February 20, 2012) with a full week of low-cost and no-cost activities for children and families offered through Kids ROC and Mountain Child Care.  Activities will include both daytime and evening fun such as a scavenger hunt, snow party, helmet decorating, in addition to Kids ROC après-ski programming with game, craft and snow tubing nights that include dinner.  Mountain Child Care will also offer special evening child care services most evenings during Family Week (Thursday February 16 – Saturday February 25).
