Christina Lustenberger

Born and raised in Invemere BC, my parents instilled a passion for the mountains in me.

Starting at the age of two I was raised skiing on the local hill at Panorama Resort and, so began my love for the great white outdoors. My father Peter "Lusti" ran the local ski shop at Panorama, appropriately named "Lusti's" and my mother had the task of chasing my older sister and I around the slopes. Eventually joining the ski-racing program when I was old enough, it was all progression from there. Competing on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for six years, achieving top 10 World Cup results, and competing in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games were some of the highlights of my racing career.

Until the age of 24, traveling the world for ski racing was my life. However, I always felt that there was more to skiing than just racing. Retiring from the Alpine Team was a tough choice, but ultimately a leap in the right direction; the mountains had so much to offer and skiing them was where I wanted to be! Switching my focus from alpine racing to backcountry skiing, I developed a passion for ski mountaineering.

I decided to level out my skiing skills with my mountain skills and enrolled in the Thompson Rivers University Adventure Guide Program. After taking this course and committing two years of backcountry training, I am now working as an ACMG ski guide in Revelstoke and remote backcountry ski lodges in BC .

My love for the mountains has opened up a life of opportunity and incredible experiences for skiing. Living out new adventures through skiing with great friends is something I hope to be able to do the rest of my life.

What do you enjoy most about skiing and living in Revelstoke?

The mountains in this area are some of my favorite in the world. I have spent most of my career traveling to different resorts and countries to ski. There is a reason I live in Revelstoke,  and it's not for anything else but the skiing!

What’s your favourite word for snow?

Steep chutes or pillow lines?

I love all skiing but steep skiing is the best skiing!  I love steep skiing, It's my passion. The steeps challenge me as a skier, both physically and mentally.

Describe your style on the mountain:

Ex racer meets freeride skier. I love going fast, and always keen to rip a fast groomer. Not much for traversing, always looking for fall line and longest runs!

What songs get you pumped on a powder day?

I don’t need music, I just look at Gnorm. Tits deep or overhead, that will get me pumped!

What are your goals for this season?

Ski a line I have been looking at since I moved to Revelstoke 7 years ago. . . it’s a secret
